Following construction of a large rear house extension on a sloping site, the sill height is 800mm off the ground. In order to build the patio this must be made up. There is a high water table and poor drainage (foundation depth had to be increased by an extra 1000mm) so apart from the large amount of infill material that would be required, some sort of alternative construction is needed. Any advice or suggestions would be gratefully received.

Decking is not an option either... :)

steps down to the patio?
a retaining wall and fill will be relatively costly
some nice wide steps and decent railings you might get done for about £1500-2000
