Hi All

I am considering purchasing a plot of land for a self-build project. The access (driveway) to the plot will be down the side of an existing building across a side slope. The drive will be 30M long plus splay at the road (30mph zone) and turning area in front of garage. I expect the drive will be about 3m wide, but may have to be wider to allow delivery lorries to bring in materials. Due to the side slope (approx 20% or 1 in 5) it will be necessary to build a retaining wall to either support the slope above the drive (if I cut into the hill) or to build up the lower edge of the drive.

Now I realise I'm asking how long is a piece of string type question but can anyone give an indication of the likely cost additions to a 'standard straight and level' drive?

no one here can give you anything accurate without a spec , i.e. materials ,finish etc and a site visit

you are talking 90m ish of drive so if you budget £5500 for the drive in cbp of bitmac then roughly £100 M2 of retaing wall to include footings etc
so at a very very rough guess somewhere between 9 and 20 grand
as you see not much help at all guessing
