Hi all,

I am undertaking some bt duct laying for a new house been built on the farm road near my house we were quoted Â£3500 to do the work by bt themselves so we are doing the work ourselves i have all the ducting and specifications from bt and have made a good start with most of the trench dug duct laid and backfilled. but i am now at the stage were we are near the road were the main duct passes along the grass verge so we are having to excavate the duct and construct a jointing chamber, i have wooden shuttering that i have seen bt contractors using but i was wondering if anybody had any knowledge of doing this work and if so could you give me some advice or photos of the best way to undertake this task thanks.

BT boxes used to be apain in the arse,engineering brickwork to a crap drawing, cutting bricks over all the ducts etc. etc.

Times have changed, the best way is to use a product called radius quadbox. To find suppliers contact BT in your area and ask. It may even bee free issue, concrete BT covers as well. it is a brilliant system and very simple, invented in Ireland.

To use you dig your hole, put some semi dry concrete in to act as a bed approx 150mm deep.
- place first box section and bed into concrete with spirit level. BT like to have min. 100mm of space below ducts to work in the box.
-cut holes for ducts in the next box and place on first one. Put ducts through holes into box.
-keep putting boxes on till level is reached. if needed cut boxes using abrasive blade on disc cutter.
-cut off ends of ducts flush with inside of box.
-place cover on top box and either muck or bolt into position.

simple as that. Each section of the box is very light, needs no fixing. Get the bottom one level and the rest follows easy. It's a million miles easier than using brickwork.

Most BT stuff is free issue, ring up and ask, you may have to wait a couple of weeks for delivery though.
