Gravel path on slope - Whats my best option?

Other groundworks tasks, such as roads and footpaths, terracing, fencing, foundations, walls and brickwork, tools and plant.

I want to provide a path around some wooden raised beds, site dimensions around 5m by 4m less the beds, roughly 400mm path around two 3m x 2m beds. The slope is around 1 in 10. I have started to lay out the timber gravel boards and following advice on this site was planning to lay 100mm type 1 followed by either gravel or hoggin type covering. (I have a photo but can't see how to upload)

Gravel is favoured by the boss but my fear is that with type 1 down, the gravel will roll down the slope. If I were to use this I guess I would have to terrace the slope? If I do this would more 19mm gravel boards be best or say new railway sleepers?

I would hope that hoggin would prevent this, is this so?

The other slight problem is that on the LHS of the site is an arch, where we have a seed feeder. Birds love it, even a family of pheasants which have already made a mess of a small area of 20mm gravel, digging with their feet looking for seed that has been dropped. Would hoggin be more resistant to their efforts?

thanks for any advice.

LLL, I have no affinity with noggin, in fact only heard of it via this web site. What is the problem with it please and if I want a compacted firm surface what would you recommend?

thanks,

use MOT type 1 crushed limestone, will wack nice and flat, hoggin is a mixture of mud and gravel, that turns to mush
