Right, Ive finished all of my paving (will up pics when garden has some semblance of order) Now, she who must be obeyed has decided to have shrubbery slabbed too :O
Just she wants a tree planted in the paving. Its a raised area and the tree is a dwarf Acer (bloodgod) so no issues with it affecting pavers. Whats the best way to leave and opening in the paving for this? It will be planted prior to laying,so Im only allowing one slab 12 x 12 out for the trunk, would a haunch all round be the best way? or is there a tried and tested method?

Cheers

Bloodgood is not technically a dwarf I have one in my garden and it's about 18ft x18ft. It's about 30 years old mind you. I don't think you're giving it enough room you'd be best to make a pit by removing 4 flags if you lay the flags on a sticky mix around the edges then there is no need for haunching. Best to excavate and plant it after laying so you don't contaminate the soil as it's a lime hater. It's a type of Palmatum Japonica so needs an ericatious soil mix. Cement etc will burn it's roots and probably kill it.

Might leave it in the pot. Heard alot of horror stories about them since posting, a friend had one and it threw suckers up the garden from 10 ft away. Have a temperamental rhododendron in the front garden, that enough maintenance...along with the missus ;)

Thanks for the reply tho
