Hello,
Terrific resource this site!
I am interested in the Coxwell Self Binding Gravel for the footpath around my potager ornamental vegetable/fruit garden (and between the rasied beds). I was advised I needed 100mm of Coxwell sub base and 80mm of Coxwell SBG. Looking at the sbg page on your site the recommendations are for 75-150mm sub base and 35-50mm SBG.
The site I intend to use is prone to some patchy winter waterlogging. The foot traffic will be exceptionally light. The paths are likely to be laid on top of the existing ground, retained by the 200mm high raised beds.
Can I get away with much less than the recommended 100/80mm depths for my situation?

75ml is fine for foot traffic but you must go with the recommended depth for sbg. Never skimp on materials your path would fail

I can't understand why they are recommending 80mm depth for the surface layer, other than flogging more of their own product, obv. The same must be true for the "Coxwell Sub-base" which can't possibly be any better than Type 1, because it just doesn't get any better.

For foot traffic, the minimum you'd get away with would be 80-100mm Type 1 and then 30mm of the SBG. Coxwell can be a bit on the stoney side sometimes, so you might need 40mm, but 80mm is just extracting urine.

Thanks for your responses. Yes I thought the 80mm was excessive (and expensive). I did pick up a sample of Coxwell SBG and it was much darker brown than I was expecting. Is the Breedon much lighter than the Coxwell? Maybe I'd be better off with that.
