today our glorious council put the cost of a skip permit up to £50

for what?

so now a 6 yd skip costs £234 on the road and your permit lasts a full 4 weeks

and joy of joys,no more plasterboard in the skips, its now classed as contaminated material and has to go in a *special* skip which costs £345, its certainly a special price

the plasterboard thing is fair enough i suppose if it helps the environment ,but the LA seem to have a license to print money

I remeber when this 'splittin waste' tosh first came out on site (2002/3). Fair enough, recycle, save the planet yada, yada, yada. But having to pay for it as contaminated? Its not exacly asbestos. Lafarge used to dish out ton bags and the plasterers would fill them. These were collected and a nice big flat bed would turn uop and take 12 bags at a time away for free. they reused it at the factory. This is an example of PC being turned on its head.

i was asking our skip guys why they don't do compartmental skips to speed up their jobs sorting it etc for general building sites, fair enough if your at footing stage you wouldn't need it but during 2nd fix etc the amount of wood and plaster board that goes in the skip, as well as plastic. i was trying to get him to split a 12yrd roll on/0ff skip up into 6 compartments. but he wasn't having any of it.

I can't see why plasterboard has to be treated specially.....at great cost. Another rip-off.
