Hi all, bit of background first, I'm involved wth a local non-league football club and around the outside of the pitch and the car park, the hardstanding is made up of recycled asphalt (?) which was reccomended as hardstanding by the FA many years ago. This year they've decided that we can't have loose material as hardstanding or we'll be relegated.

Being a non-league side we have little money and depend on grants etc which may not be through in time. Does anyone have any ideas for a temporary solid surface that can be done at a much cheaper cost than tarmac? We also heard from a club in a similar situation that there's a powder & oil than can be put down on the asphalt and then rolled to give a solid surface? Even if it's only temporary that's fine, as long as it gets us through the next inspection so we can wait for any grants and/or fundraising to get the work done properly. Any tips or help would be very much appreciated. :)

Hi Neil and welcome.

Sounds like you have a surface made from road planings - which is fine for farm gateways etc but as a sealed surface it's a no no. And as for a sub base! No No No!

Powder and oil sprinkled onto the existing surface? Apart from magic-fairy dust, I haven't heard of that one!

I've heard of some people pouring diesel onto planings on a hot day and rolling it, but I can't see your supporters wanting diesel coated shoes!

Long and short of it there isn't really a SAFE and EFFECTIVE way of doing this on the cheap.

We've recently done some viewing footpath works for our local football club that went up a league in full tarmac construction, but they were lucky to have got some kind of grant and had some money put aside for such work.
