Having the pleasure of living in roundabout city mid last year new tarmac was laid to one of the roundabouts. Short while after a liquid compound was laid over the new tarmac. Having worked on a new bus depot in bucks the same method was used on the new road leading into the depot. I presumed it was laid down to strengthen the tarmac considering it was about to be trafficked by around 50 large buses on a daily basis. After a conversation with someone i know and the subject came up he was convinced it was laid on the new roundabout to avert water. Any opinions on this

Sounds like a surface treatment to increase traction/grip .would need a photo to confirm

Sounds like a high grip friction coating. Not seen it ON a roundabout before but mainly on the approcahes.

Dave - this is Milton Keynes we're talking about. Every roundabout is just the approach to another roundabout! :p

:laugh: Thats so true Tony. There is 300 fully formed structured roundabouts in MK with the good old v & h grid system. Works well when you get use to it

Ahhhhhh never been to MK nor do I ever expect to!
Thought Swindon was bad enough with the magic roundabout!

i think hemel had the original magic roundabout
first time you use it,its nuts going left or right at a roundabout
as for milton keynes the grid layout of the streets means there is hardly any traffic problems ,apart from tailbacks from people trying to join the FAIL 1 motorway

Redditch is the same islands ( roudabouts ) every few yards, seems like.
