Can anyone advise me on the best method of rolling a driveway we are constructing, it is 100 metres long we have put down 75mm hard lime stone (crush and run I think they call it) I have hired a 2.5 ton ride on twin drum roller but I am unsure as to the best rolling method or pattern to use or number of passes over the drive.
Is it best to run up and down the length of the drive or just random?
Any advise please

Overlapping runs, using the vibration.
No hard and fast rules to the amount of passes etc, you just need to watch the material - see when it doesn't compact any more - technical eh??
Remember to disengage the vibrator in advance of stopping or changing direction, otheriwse you'll end up with more waves in your material than the sea!

75mm of stone sounds a bit thin for a driveway whats the sub grade like is it very hard all year or does it get spongey. At the least would you be able to stretch to 150mm in high impact areas like the entrance any corners / turning and parking areas.
