The pic is the back, is it best to hang the gate left or right, ? Was think left, and close on the post
whats the best fitting to open and close from both side?
may make the gate, depening on the cost to buy, but if i do, I would use the closeboard timber, 6x1 same as the fence, or do you know a better way, and best method to make up
Its 4ft of fence and 3 ft gate approx, was thinking 2 3x2 timbers to brickwork
cheers

depends if your left or right handed
i would say the hinge side normally goes to the wall =more loading there,
best to use 100 by 50 tanalised bolted to the wall, and its cheaper to buy a gate than make one

If you open the gate to the wall, then thats as far as it will go. On the other hand hang it on the post and you get more "barrow" room etc. you can get a through handle of your own choice.

every extension we do more or less, has a gate if the hinges are on the wall its normally OK,(walls don't move)
if they are on the post half the time they are a sod to shut(wooden posts move)
however as sean has mentioned space may be compromised
