Skip on highway - Problems with permit

Currently doing a job on the wrong side of the Pennines in Wilmslow. So far not off to a good start as the local council has Knocked us back on a permit to place the skip on the highway. They said that its not safe to place the skip on this stretch of highway. I have never come across this previously. Permits normally go through on the nod and the council only bother if theirs a complaint. The road is a quiet suburban road, 30mph limit, speed bumps, not close to a junction no schools etc. & the skip is conned & lit. Im gobsmacked by there response. Someone is supposed to be coming out to make an inspection. Any one know were I stand?

round here a skip company goes round dumping them all over the place, grass verges, council land etc.
Its nearly impossible to report such breaches, and if you ever do get through, they say "we will ring them to tell them to move it"

If i were you, i would get some cones, dump the rubbish in the road and cone it off, then get a grab to take it away. by the time anyone has said anything, its gone

used to have problems in chorley so endid up useing grab trucks . got plenty of threatening phone calls saying we will stop the company i worked for doing any more work in there borough . and if we see you again will be on you like a tonne of bricks . all we did was swop gangs around . nothing ever came of the threats . bunch of jobs worth wanxxrs who have never worked in the real world :p

dan i have lost count of the times dacorum and st albans council have rung me on a friday or sturday night to demand a skip be moved 4" off the grass verge or else! either that or replace lights that the chavs have nicked
luton by comparison is fairly cool apart from buslanes,i have had jobs like this and it is a pain but you either have to move the gear your self or get a grab in
theres no arguing with these jobsworths,but be polite theres no point getting into their black book

have noticed that lately round here they dont seem to give a damn whether the skips are lit at night, placed on blind bends or whatever... maybe it depends who you are...didnt you bung them a tenner when you applied? not of course that that sort of thing could possibly ever happen....:p

With Easter comming up the skip firm cant do exchanges quickenough so I cant even do a dig & run. Day three one skip dug out, just been sat on our arse supping tea Still gives me a chance to get on the clients computer and get up to date with the Brew Cabin

Wrong side o' t'Pennines? I know Wilmslow's in Cheshire, but I don't recall there being any Pennines in between there and Lancashire. I'm guessing you didn't do geography at school, Clive.

Cheshire has always been dead keen on skip permits, but you can get a 'standing approval' once you've registered your insurances with the LA and as long as you use an approved skip company. I know it can be a pain, but all LA's should be as keen as Cheshire: I'm sick of seeing unlit, un-coned, reflector-free skips plonked on a dimly lit carriageway and left there for weeks, just waiting for some poor sod to run into it.
