Hi Guys, You've got a complete amateur here:
I am currently looking for contractor to build a retaining wall to bring ground up to level, for off road parking (3 spaces) at the rear of our garden (pics below). Any help with the specifications would be really appreciated as I'm completely out of my depth here.
I've had a couple of quotes and the guy I liked seems to be a little outside his comfort zone and I really want to dot the i's and cross the t's. before getting a final written quote.
This the spec i've formulated so far(mainly copied and pasted from this site), please feel free add, take apart or tell me I'm peeing in the wind. The contractor I mentioned was talking about a 9" thick concrete block wall, would this give enough support?.
He's also humming & arghing about a written gaurantee and it would be a great help if anyone could point me to exactly what a written gaurantee would actually gaurantee, if you get my drift.
Anyway here's the spec:
Excavate and dig foundations for large retaining wall (150 mm deep 450mm wide)?
Build large retaining wall to bring ground up to level and fill void with hardcore ?
Excavate any soft spots in sub-grade as required and dispose.
Supply, lay and compact minimum of 100mm of DTp1 crushed stone sub-base material to falls and levels.
Supply and erect all necessary formwork and shuttering.
Supply and place 1 layer of PIFA 1200 Damp Proof Membrane to base. Lap joints to be taped with min. 350mm overlap.
Supply, place and finish 100mm of Class C30 mass concrete with steel reinforcement.
Include expansion joints as required, comprising full depth flexible filler board with 30mm suitable sealant to top of joint. ?
Surface to be brush and trowel finish.
Clear all site of shuttering, debris and rubble on completion and make good.
Thnx in adavance for any replies or advice.
