Hi all.
Not too sure if this post is in the right place, but here goes.
Has anybody got any ideas about the price of top soil, either bagged or loose(bagged preferably).I think that I need about ton and a half to fill up a flower bed(18ft x 3ft x 6ins deep) and, this is the quantity Im not sure of,enough to fill an area thats approx 46 sq yards x 4ins deep. This area is going to be turfed.
Any info would be much appreciated.
Stewart.

Hi Stewart
By my sometimes dodgy calculations, your flower bed is just over 0.7m3, which would be about a ton of topsoil.
Your turfed area is about 3.8m3 and would need about 5.3 tons.
So you will need about 7 tons on order.
We pay almost £30 per ton for good quality top soil, delivered loose, and up to close on £40 for dumpy bags. Am sure most areas of the country are a bit cheaper than deepest Somerset ???
Try Tony's page for volumes of bulk materials

I can get 'topsoil' for about £9/tonne collected. But thats from a waste management company that screen it themselves - no guarantee its not contaminated with various nasties though.

13t for £230 here, but it's screened recyc., ideal for turfing and seeding. Clean Norfolk loam is much more at around £50 for the planting beds of the more discerning gardener.

look at the aggregate suppliers on the fringes of london
H.loveday of chesham will do a better price than that but it depends on m3 and distance from their yard
