Hi
Have been finding this site v.useful, thanks for all the tips -and am going with Indian sandstone for our patio.
I've found a suppliers - stone traders -, that seem to do a good deal c.£14 per square metre (based in Walton on thames www.stone-traders.co.uk). Just wondered if anyone here had used them before?
Have looked here for pointers - and apart from checking grade quality, sizes in packs - not sure what other questions to ask before I order?
Have visited the site and it looks like a v.large merchants.
Grateful for any advice.

Hi
Thanks for your replies. We're ordering c.30msq of raj green sandstone. Price includes VAt (c.£12 per sq metre +VAT) but not delivery (c.£50). Yes, it's the cheapness that worried me, they gave us some samples which seem fine but I'm no expert and it seemed like a big supply depot when we went to visit. Lots of trucks coming & going.
They said because they import directly from the quarry they can offer them cheaper than other outlets? Although reading advice on this site, that's not a guarantee of quality.
Thanks for the companies house check (never even thought!)... G

When you say delivery is around £50 I think you'll find that's per crate and not for the complete order.
I haven't done the full maths but that could be getting on for an extra £4/metre for delivery. Making it around £17 sq/metre
Some online shops do free delivery.
Not saying £17 is not a good price but just be aware.

I was speaking with Mr Rock Unique this evening on a completely unrelated matter and he mentioned they were shifting Raj Green in and around the SE of England for a discounted price as they had been supplied with more of the stuff than they'd actually ordered, and rather than send it back to India, he was selling it off cheap.
Could be worth a call or a visit to their website

Cheers for your tips - and will check the delivery charge, as 'per metre' will make a difference.
I'm going to order today but thanks for the heads-up on Rock Unique. I got a good quote from them yesterday, but unfortunately it's about 5-7days delivery and looks like we'll need them b4 the weekend. Will bear them in mind for the future (wish I'd found this site earlier - will be recommending it to all diy'ers I know).
Hope to post a photo when it's all done...

I am based in london and have used stone traders many times.Gary is in charge of the yard and is a sound bloke. He is very cool and never gets flustered ],despite being very, very busy. The thicknesses are not that similar and they are definately not grade A...but they look just as good as any when they are down.
