So shoot me if this is a dumb question. I need to build (not me personally) a simple double garage structure on a farm, the proposal having been passed by local Auth. For the purpose of detailed plans I've taken off foundation dets, walling dets, DPC dets, etc off this site, had the roof trusses properly designed, but being an "uitlander" want to be sure that I meet proper STDS when submitting the detailed drgs. I've looked on the INet and bought what I thought was the right ref book, but wasn't. Is there anything out there the equiv of Tony's book (got it), or like "the WHich book of building" anyone can point me to? Am a competent draughter, dont want to pay £700 -£1000 for designer.

i am pretty sure you can submit a decent hand drawn plan
i do sketches for building notices all the time
PM me off list if you need any advice on current regs

thanks for the answer, LLL. Its to be a double garage with a workshop attached, brickwork up to about 5' and then featherboarding to roof height, and a tiled roof. I'm thinking Brick outer skin, 50mm insulation, block inner skin. Upper section, featherboard outer skin on frame, membrane, 50mm insulation, marine ply inner skin. Does this make sense? Main function is excess storage, I doubt if the owner will even put garage doors on. (I use autocad lite, works brill and old copy came cheap)
Thanks again.

it all depends if it comes under the jurisdiction of building regs bill
we normally do a 100 mm cavity with 85 mm cavity bats in now days, if your building is exempt from building regs you should be ok with what you say ,main point from what you said is the roof construction, tiled roofs are heavy and you need to stop it spreading
