Recently moved into a new house. The back garden slopes up at a steep gradiant and the previous owner has built a retaining wall to create a patio area with steps up to the garden area. All the header stones were lose and some of the brickwork on the steps had fallen down.

Being a complete novice, I've replaced or relayed all the headers and brickwork. The problem I have is the top 2 steps to the garden, after 3 attempts laying, the header stones won't bond to the brickwork. I used the same mix (1:4) in all areas, cleaned the areas and headers, and wet them before laying but they won't bond. Once the mortar has gone off the stones can be lifted.

Any hints or help would be much appreciated.

Cheers

prime the stone and bricks with ronafix or pva,add a good measure of the same to your mortar which should be 3:1 then relay
they should be stuck like sh!t to a blanket
leave well alone for a day or 2
