Im intending to install a new drive with an asphalt surface,on a clay subsoil.
How thick do I lay the concrete base.
Do I need to Install a sub-base.
Do I need to install mesh reinforcement.
Whats the maximum size before I need to install expansion joints in the concrete.

Call a contractor.

I don't mean this to be cheeky -- mixing asphalt simply isn't something that can be done in a wheelbarrow -- it has to be kept at temperature, or you'll end up trying to spread something the consistency of cold treacle -- and it will never look right.

Some things are better left to the professionals.

(and I'm in the US...so it's not so I can flog my business!)

The idea was to do all the work myself apart from the asphalting. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
