I posted a while back about raising the hight of a corner of my garden ready to lay a patio. I have now completed this buy using type 1 to build it up. Because the ground was so low i had to build it up by over a foot in places. I now need to build a retainer wall along the edge of the fence because the patio will be heigher that the bottom of our fence. What i would like to know is can i lay the concrete foundations for the wall on type 1 or do i need a more solid material, what sort of bricks do i need to use can i just use breeze blocks?

if it needed a retaining wall that should have been done before the type 1 went in
why cant the patio just butt up to the fence???
i suppose you could lay concrete on type 1 but its arse about face mate

LLL is right: the retainer should have been constructed prior to placing the sub-base material. However, if this retainer is only there to hold back the 300mm or so of patio construction, you could use a simple anchor block system, such as Secura Minor from Tobermore or Croft Walling from Marshalls.
