Im going to be replacing a fence that was destroyed due to strong winds. its an end terrace house and the side is onto a lane.

as the client wants the fence to be on the boundry where the old fence is im goin to dig new post holes for the new posts, but i have one problem, at the corner i need to replace the corner post and need to put the new one in the same place as the old as this is also where a hinged gate is attached.

What is my best option of puttin a nex post in and what is the norm thing to do for something like this?

thanks, Mark

Hi

you have a couple of options.
Firstly, if the post you are putting in is the same dimensions (i.e. 4x4), you can sometimes remove the old post from its concrete socket and simply slot the new one in.
Failing that, you will have to expose the top of the old concrete ball round the base of the post (and hope it is not too big!), and break it out. Depending on how big it is, and deep, you can use a sledgehammer and long spike, or a JCB Beaver type breaker.
Once all the old concrete is removed, you have a fresh hole to put in the new post.

Regards

I'm not sure what the problem is exactly...:(

If the fence blew over in the wind it is obviously not that well built. Just dig out the corner post and reset a new one...
