Hi Tony, just a quick question.....what is the correct fashion of laying the concrete H-Blocks?
I infill the blocks with mortar so as to achieve a 'full' laying bed, but a colleague says that you lay a mortar bed on the edges, then when the wall is constructed, infill the 'pockets' with concrete mix so as to achieve concrete 'rods' running through the blocks.
I agree with the principal of this method, but seems that your double handling the job so to speak and taking a great deal of time in the construction.
Please put me out of my misery.......

tony "the gaffer" is not about ,but your mate is right,you build the wall then insert 10 mm re bar into the holes and fill with concret for a very strong wall,normally used for barns and wharehouses

LLL, many thanks for the response. The wall in question is a free standing wall which is 3 courses high. Going to be rendered.
I find it loads easier whilst during the laying I lay a full bed of mortar, filling in the holes as I'm going along, but colleague puts his bed aong the edges, then fills in afterwards (more like the labourers do it for him!!!).

I'm sure I'm not the only one to have read that as "Whorehouses"
mind was elsewhere dave IYKWIM
the correct way riggers is to put the muck along the edges and then fill afterwards ,i normally do the 2 outside edges of a whole course and the other brickie does the little bits in the middle ,then we "2" the blocks on together, have done 350 in a day before (2 of us and a labourer) but shoulders were very sore after,could barely pick up my pint......

I saw on TV once a system using polystyrene blocks. You glue them together then rebar and fill as above. Render the outside and Bobs yr Mum's bro. Very quick to put up and good insulatiion too
