I want to attach the first timber to the house wall, then the outside frame, but i want some posts to concrete in, I would need to do the posts first, but! how would i make sure i have the posts spot on?

Also the last peice of deck towards the end, do you work towards the house?

As not to end up short at the last joist, so it is flush

Would you do a dry run first, to work out the spacing

Can you cut down the lengh of decking, if that was easier?

Whats the best way to cut joists spot on? hire a mitre saw?

I have done them before, and been 1 or 2 mill off

Also should i have a slope to the side? so the ledger board, fixed to the wall would be on a slight slope? to start off right

Any tips to create the fall?

Would the joists need cutting at a slight angle, then fix to the frame?

all you need to do for the posts is work out the gap between the joists, then run straight lines from the house out ( 3 / 4 / 5 routine ) and have them in every so often, doesnt matter if the posts are a bit high at this stage. To do the posts, get a couple if pins, stringline, bead, and a podger ( stick to force the concrete round the posts ) line the post level with the line first, then get a bit of concrete round it, once it wont move off the line, check the other side of the post. Ive always started flush with the house and worked out the way. You can cut down the decking board if needed. Ive always cut the joists with a handsaw. It depends whats round the deck to create the run. Away from the house is always best where possible, if not then off to the side slightly. To make the fall, set the stringline at the joist height and have it level all the way throgh, then drop it down the required distance at the end of the run, mark on the post with a pencil, and thats where to fix it to, and that will create the run.

I just dont get this bit, to have the fall, would i need to cut the first joist at a slight angle?

Does the ribbed decking need a fall to the side always, i read it does, if the deck is to be laid lenghways ???

sorry ive not been able to reply to your posts sooner, been so busy, was working at T in the Park for the past 4 days, no sleep at all heh. Anyways, make the fall in the direction of the channels in the decking boards, either the right or left, whichever side drains easier
