I HAVE JUST BEEN QUOTED Â£1300 QUID FOR BT TO LAY 8' OF SPLIT DUCT & INSTALL A VEHICLE COVER
Having tried to do things "the right way", Bt have told me that to undertake the above work on a crossover that I am installing it will cost Â£1300 quid !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(the crossover itsel is only costing the client Â£700)
Thre is no intention to resplice the cable and the price they have quoted is with me doing the excavation !!!!!!
Put simply they are going to lower the cable (no reconnection / disconnection needed) and replace the current concrete "pedestrian cover" with a vehicular one.
Please help - im just starting out and it seems BT are going to cock everything up for me from the outset.
What can I do?????????????????

I don't understand the term "cross over" in this context. If you are expecting BT to install plant under a vehiclular access, then they have to ensure that the duct will not collapse in the future and end up with them being sued. Is the duct to be encased in concrete once it is installed?

They have you by the short'n'curlies and you will just have to accept it. For them to send out a two man team, along with a van, would cost around 500 quid. You then have to add the cost of the chamber and cover, which has to be HGV rated because it's in a public footpath, plus the odd bit of ducting.

1300 quid might seem a bit much to you, but I doubt a private contractor could do it for much less. After all, BT make the rules, and even if you could use a private contractor, BT will charge a premium for their approved cover, plus a fee for inspecting and approving the work prior to signing it off for backfill.
