I have a quote for someone who wants a gravel drive.
The problem is to me is how do i do it?
In the past i have either just overlayed the gravel onto a concrete drive with a tackcoat. or more recently i did one where i used crushed concrete and then put a thick membrane over it then the gravel. My idea of using a membrane backfired because everytime they turn it rips it up, i must have been back 5 times and i have vowed to never do that again.
So these people dont want to spend a lot (hence the gravel), half the area is already concrete, they want an edge around it- all thats no problem its just the extra area they want.
I fear by putting the gravel over the crushed directly it will all just get churned up.
Any ideas?

A good job I read a few likley sounding posts, I have almost the same setup. I have an exisiting concrete drive ( on a bit of a slope ) and want to widen it, the new strip won't be used that often. After reading a lot of the stuff on here I am thinking gravel ( Williams - there is a quite detailed description of how to tackle this on the site if you look around ) and hope the slope doesn't cause too many problems, it runs down away from the highway. I am interested in what you used for your 'tack' coat, and what sort of gravel you used ? Did you leave only the gravel that adhered to the concrete, or some loose stuff on top of that also ?
My aim would be to have the same gravel 'tacked' to the existing concrete, and then running through as eventually loose gravel to the new part of the driveway. Does that make sense, and would it work !?
I have read up on all the new SUDS stuff and I hope my mishamsh solution would also meet those requirements. The old part is 'as is' draining into the sewer, the new is permeable.
Any views appreciated. Jonathan
ps. I have now read TonyMc's reply from another thread - ""Even breaking up the old concrete, putting gravel of *any* description over a hard base is a surefire shortcut to A&E."" - Does ANY include a resin or 'tacked' coating with no loose gravel at all ? Or is it not even practical to do this ?

when we've done gravel drives always on fresh mot or 20mm-dust, could you brake out and crush and re use. spread gravel and compact. should be ok.
what about resin bound or bonded, simeon from ronacreate on here has some great products.

just got back from doing a course with ronacrete , there product range is amazing and the system is faultless in my opinion

think the last time i did resin bond the prices were around £200 per tonne for 1-3mm aggregate (non bauxite) and about £7 per sq.m for the resin. theres not great secret on that aspect of the work,just wondering if theres been any change since then. still an expensive product when you factor in the base work,probably why you dont see much of it about.
what d'you need the ticket for? easiest decor surface to lay ever!
