Just finished 3 very large raised beds .. ( well large for me at 65 sq m)
will be facing outer face with wood, looking for a top 'coping'

Just been on holiday in Canaries, and noticed that they use sawn and finished (but not polished) Lava rock.
Obviously as they have an abundance of the stuff.

This looks superb, and as it has plenty of holes (like an aero bar) thus has a pleasing varied texture.

They used it for coping stones around swimming pools, only about 30mm thick, with neat rounded edge, as well as in rougher format for walling.

Anybody know if this is available in UK. ?

Secondly if nobody is aware of this in UK ... any suggestions for a coping ... don't want to use decking planks (which was a suggestion), and concrete copings would look poor.
Also need something that can be stood on if need be.

Looking for flat top and about 200mm wide.

Timber i used once was the planking from the groynes. Some of it was canadian, like steel, we had to drill it before spiking it was that hard. any groyne building by you at the seaside and builders will sell you some :;):

That is the point ... don't really want wood, the lava rock seemd a good option.
