I would be interested to know people's thoughts on using Metposts for pergolas etc. I have a friend who recently needed to replace her pergola and was very relieved to have Metposts as she could simply pull the posts out and replace. I know a lot of landscapers don't like using them. Would anyone use them in conjunction with concrete - ie dig a hole for concrete and put the Metpost in that? Or is that a stupid idea?
Thanks
Sharon

I have a strong and well-founded aversion to MetPosts or any other 'spike' type of fixing. There's an inherent weakness where the post meets the spike, and they almost never go in truly plumb.

If it was a project where posts may need to be upped and changed every now and again, I'd use a steel tube or length of box section, embedded in concrete, with the posts sat inside the tuble/box and chocked into position with wedges.
