Hi thanks for the usefull help so far. From your website it is recomended that there is a min distance below the DPC of 150mm,
I am building a garage on the side of the house. Can the top of the base be closer than 150mm below the DPC. as one side will be under cover so there is no chance of damp breaching the corse.

It can be, but it could turn out to be a problem if you ever come to sell the property and the buyer's surveyor spots the 'breach'.
It's also an issue with some home insurance policies, apparently. I had an email from a lady last week who had a claim for damp damage rejected by her insurers on the grounds that a patio she'd had installed a couple of years previously did not comply with the 150mm below rule, and was the most likely cause of the damp problem. She wanted to know if she could now sue the patio installers.
However, it's your property so you can, in effect, do as you please.
