I am just about ready to start constructing some Formwork prior to pouring some Concrete.

I am using some 2.5cm x 150mm lengths of timber to construct the Form to contain the concrete and some timber posts that will go into the ground; 4cm square to screw or nail the form to.

My question is: What is the best way to actually secure the Form to the posts? Do I nail or screw through the posts outside of the Form so that it holds it secure that way? or do I nail the Form into the post from the side which will be exposed to the concrete? obviously If I did the latter removing the Formwork would be a right pig.

Would be interesting to know how other people tackle this.

Normally, the formwork is nailed to the stakes. When it comes to striking the formwork, the stakes are prised away from the formwork, loosened and removed then the formwork removed, so relatively shallow nails are used, with just enough penetration into the stakes to hold the forms in place while the concrete is poured.

You could, of course, drive nails through the stakes into the walers, leaving the heads of the nails protruding slightly, which may be easier for you if you're not a regular user of formwork.
