I want to do a simple plan for a friend

Is there any programs (free) for designing a garden, were i can put on some paving, and other features to a scale, so i can send online, I have tried paint, but would like something with a graph background or similer, and is there any tips for doing a scale pic, ie 1 inch = 4 FT or so? I want to print it out on a A4 sheet of paper, after I have done the plan on the pc, so hopefully they can do the work

Regards

By the time you've found a free program, downloaded it, learned how to use it, had a couple of dummy runs, wasted a couple of sheets of paper because it didn't print like you thought it would (Yes, it happens to everyone) you'll find it would have been 10 times faster and easier with graph paper and a pencil.

Try going to www.download.com and doing a search for CAD or garden and lots of programs should appear, most of which offer free trial periods.

I've recently done a plan using Microsoft Visio which worked well and allows you to draw to scale and zoom in to very fine detail (e.g. 10mm mortar joints!).

You'll be surprised how versatile Microsoft Word is, if you enable the grid it allows you to place your shapes far more accurately.
