I want to make a feature out of a well I have in my front garden. I would like some information as how to set out and construct the circular wall. I hope the height does not have to be the standard 1m because it will make it look out of place?
The actual outside dia of of the well shaft which protrudes 30cm is 80cm. So I was going to allow 100cm inside dia of wall to be contstructed giving 10 cm clearance all round for 2 timber upright posts for a roof tiled canopy and winding roller 'the traditional image'.
I am of course going to insert a heavy gauge steel mesh panel with lock to avoid any accidents.
Unfortunately it is not close enough to the street to be used as a wishing well!!!!
I am a keen DIY'er and any help with this project would be greatly appreciated.

Try to find a copy of Ian Cramb's Book The Art of the Stonemason.

He has a section on building circular walls, although on a larger scale.

You don't say what type of material you'll be using - bricks? Wallings blocks? CMUs? Reinforced concrete?

If it was me, I'd build round a pipe, then lift the pipe out (or break it) when I'm done.
