Over 3 metres is that 75 mill ?

So its 1 mill for every 40 mill, Is that correct

Yes its in old english 1" in 40" so could be 1mm in 40mm

as near as dam it its 1" = 25mm in 1 metre.

Yup: 1 in 40 is 1 millimetre of fall for every 40 millimetres of run, and so you need 25mm for every metre. have a look at the Drainage Definitions
