The strongest fence panels are usually those formed using rails and vertical boards. The overall strength of the fence depends on the posts and the ground anchorage.
Typical rails for a close board panel of 1.85m span would be at least 75x50mm, preferably 100x50mm treated timber.

We lay our closeboard fencing with 4" posts 10 ft apart, with a 3x3" intermediate post at 5 ft.
we use 3 rails usually 75x50mm and they are 10ft long also.
gravel board is usually 6x1" an as with all our fencing screwed together with galvanised screws
All our fences are used with treated timber.
