Hello,
I am hoping to lay a patio for a customer who has a basement room at the back of the house that suffers from damp. They are keen for me to lay the patio with a DPM underneath the sub-base. Looking on paving expert it seems this would not be a good idea as it might create problems later on. I will be falling the patio away from the house to a distance of 3.6m from the house. surely this would be far enough away to no contribute to the damp problem? Advice welcome.
Cheers
Tom

You need to collect all that surface water and send it somewhere safe.

A DPM is not an issue on this type of project, but, as already stated, it's critical to get rid of the water. If the basement is already suffering damp, dumping surface water 3.6m distance is not the best of ideas. The curent situation suggests wet ground and poor waterproofing, so don't risk adding to those woes.
