Hi I’v recently dug a trench behind my garage for a Soakaway. I keep reading it must be 5 metres away but I don’t have that much room from my garage to the fence. Roughly around 2-3 metres. Also the Soakaway is for a single garage so it’s about 10 sqmetres of roof. What size Soakaway would you recommend as a minimum? And should I still do it even if it’s not 5 metres away from the garage?

Regards George

Another thing is that I can’t connect to any of the drains because there to far away from the back of the garage.

Without knowing your ground conditions nobody can advise you. Are you on clay? Sand? You should do a percolation test.

Not advisable to connect into foul drains- your water company will give you a big bill if they find out.

Any help. I’v dug a hole now and it’s about a metre deep by 700x700. The pipe to it will sit just over halfway up in the hole so around the 600 below the pipe. Will that be okay for such a small roof?

If you make the hole big enough to accommodate a single storm crate, that's roughly 1m x 500mm, then that should be OK-ish for a 10m² roof.
