Hello all,
I am trying to connect some 110mm plastic under ground pipe to the existing clay pipe for a toilet connection.
We have done quite a lot of drainage before on jobs but this one is a problem. Normally we make the connection with a flexible rubber adapter. This time though most of the pipe is surrounded in concrete.
Is there any type of internal fitting that can be used ie from a socket on the plastic pipe to the internal of the clay pipe as we have managed to remove a section of existing clay pipe from it socket?

Last time I came across this, I chiseled the concrete off using an sds, revealed about 6inch of pipe then used the rubber adaptor. not sure if you can insert a plastic pipe inside a clay joiner piece?

Yes you can get an adaptor that pushes inside the clay pipe . Osma do one but can't remember part number. I should think you could pick one up at
Builders merchant. It has a rubber spigot that seals the inside of the pipe and a push in collar as normal. Bit like the one that goes into back of toilet.

Tried today to use a McAlpine one. Phoned McAlpine tech help & they said not to use underground as the rubber will perish? (not sure how) It was a black fitting not brown.

Tried but concrete is that strong it kept fracturing the clay pipe

4 inch grinder, small coal chisel and persistence.
Come across this loads on 60s/70s houses.
Comes of ok when its a weak lean mix, can be horrendous when its as you describe. Can take hours just to get a connection.
Don't go near it with any sort of breaker.

Seal the collar with denso tape to help stop ingress of contaminents to the gasket.

when its really a PITA have used a multiquick fitting

I have used the Mc Alpine DC1BL before now. This one is recommended by J Atkinson for low level drainage. Breaking around the pipe can be done if you go careful, may take some time but the old clay are so brittle. They aren't very long, about 2 ft so you could break back to the collar, take out the yarn and re-make the joint.

Great advice Sean, the other option is to get the pipe patch lined so you butt your new pipe up and Davy Brown or one of his people patch lines it,
I still have nightmare about a job in hemel where we ended up going 3 metres back to the IC ,the concrete was as strong and solid as it could be and the pipe just kept breaking

Sorted it now.
Used angle grinder & mini chisels we was on last possible section before we then would have to break into main shared 6" main.

That is the fitting we tried. Building Inspector would not allow as he said it is not what the fitting is designed for & the internal diameter reduces to around 80mm.

Was that cowper road, where I turned up an met flowjoe? ( whatever happened to him?)

Coincidence, I was on flowjoes site today draindomain.com. he was a good craic on brew cabin, hope he's doing ok.
