Hit a snag with the patio and astro turf. A friend gave me a roll of weed membraine to use under both and have laid it under the type 1 already. After reading last night about some membraines not allowing dog urine to pass through I've just run some water on an off cut and ro my suprise no water passes through it, pretty annoyed as it's already under the type 1 and compacted.
It's not plastic seems more like a paper, cloth thin sheet and it does look perforated but no water can get through.
Can anyone tell me if it's ok to somehow lift and then relay the 3 tonnes of type 1 I compacted last week or is it a no no?
Cheers

Hi mate. Doesn't look woven. It is fabric and u can sort of see through it.
Really f#### off with him as he's a local builder who said it was meant for astro turf, yet if I put water on it it just sits there.
Proper annoyed as I've already compacted 3 tonnes of type 1 over it. He's now said pierce loads of wholes through the type 1.
So tmrw, do I do this or take all the type 1 up? I have 3 more tonnes to lay on top of the first lot which was planned for tmrw but maybe not now

Morning dude.
So ur saying that even tho I cannot get water to pass through it it will pass through once in the ground?
I am sceptical from trying to press water through it and failing, but all of you're advice so far has been spot on so im going with u and leaving it down.
joy, best start carrying another 3 tonnes up the stairs using buckets again. Should be done by the afternoon
Thanks Mr lager lout

I thought the weed control went on top of the subase, or on top of the sand, or grano chippings ???

Apparently if u have dogs that pee all over you're nice new turf it's advisable to place the membrane under the type 1 base

Now this is Wierd.
The very same piece of membraine in the pictures that I have been testing now as if by magic overnight allows the water to pass through. Pretty strange

A geotextile like terram would normally go under the sub base, weed membrane goes under the turf, or if you have dog piss likely then the membrane goes under the bedding, otherwise you'll still get weeds showing through.
