Still in planning stages for my garden patio.

Patio will need drainage fitted and I'm thinking either linear drains or dished block paving ( the type with concave in it - apologies for lack of technical lingo) running into a gully pot at end of patio.

Have never laid a block paver in my life but know they need sand jointing, would you still have jointing sand between dished block paving or would you butt them together tightly with concrete haunching?

Was hoping for some professional opinions. I think the dished block paving would look better compared to linear drainage, but would linear drainage be easier for amateur installation?

What would be minimum falls needed for both styles?

I have room for manoeuvre regarding falls and can prob work the falls to suit my needs.

First Jimbo, why block paving for a patio?
Do you need a channel, are you falling towards the house,
because if not you can drain to your borders and won't necessarily need a channel?
The choice of channel is yours really but look on index for a better idea. on a residential drainage channel you can get away without the channel with a built in fall, as they can be costly and the water will drain with a level channel just as good ( hydrostatic gradient)
The min' crossfall is 1:40 and endfall1:80, although there is a bit of leeway depending on type of paving. Lay your paving tight to your channel. hope this helps
and this
Maybe you could post up some photo's and also re-your other post, it is courteous to reply if the information we give has been helpful ??? :;): :) I would also recommend that you get a drink sit down at your 'puter and study the index in depth, you will find everything you need on there. but do keep asking questions, the guys are there to help.

Sean,

Many thanks for your help.

Don't think my post was well worded. Patio is going to be Indian sandstone and I want a drain to divert any water away from house.

Patio getting built because dog keeps digging up garden so there won't be any flower beds to drain into either.

I just thought using the dished block pavers would look nicer than linear drain but I sceptical if they would be as effective. Saw from your link the galvanised slot drains - thought they looked good but would they be liable do get filled with debris and be difficult to clear?

At the moment I'm just making my plan up and trying to buy materials along the way. Will prob be into the new year before I start work on patio and will get some photos once I'm up and running.

THANKS.
