Hi all,

I have been reading the site and found it all really useful.

I have a manhole in my garden as shown below:

I am currently grassing the area over so need to lower it. It is right next to another newer manhole and has been covered in soil for the last decade. Consequently I have decided to cap this manhole with a concrete slab instead of replacing the manhole as it is not needed.

Can I lower the bricks to the red line in the photo? And how do I go about making a concrete slab to use to cap it with? I am guessing it will be ok to form one using crude formwork with rebar mesh to reinforce it?

Any advice would be appreciated please.

Cut out the blockwork and if its only foot traffic cover the hole with a couple of 3x2 slabs.

You need to be 100 p'cent sure that it is redundant before covering, or filling in.

reduce the height but its a bad idea capping a manhole unless its definitely not used
