Can you lay tarmac over concrete??
Looking for a cheap and easy way to cover over old cracked concrete in my front garden--there is also a large area of existing tarmac, which I want to keep, and an unwanted flowerbed so I hoped to be able to use tarmac so that it would match up. One contractor quoted for full excavation and installation of new base and two layers of tarmac--all got a bit too expensive (100 sq.metres) but another said he could lay a 10mm topcoat of 6mm tarmac over the existing concrete--a lot cheaper-but how long would it last???
Any advice would be much appreciated

Only the people who live in caravans and drive transits can lay tarmac 10mm thick, would last till he got to end off street if you was lucky, i rest my case MSH :)

Look up "reflective cracking" on the main website to find out why laying blacktop over a cracked substrate is not a good idea.

i'm doing a wall and drive and i have set the edgings in but the existing tarmac footpath now has a ragged edge
i am thinking that if i cut a line 50mm deep and 200 mm back this will be enough for the tarmac lads to fill over the concrete haunching, does that sound about right dave?
LLL ???

dont think you follow giles, i was asking dave for professional advice
the footpath as it stands (private road oc) is only 50mm of bit mac on what looks like hoggin, most of it wrecked by tree roots
as per the main site the 150 edgings have 150mm leanmix under them and 150mm laterally each side, obviously the haunching only comes within 50mm of the top of the edging to allow for the CBP one side and the reinstatement of the tarmac the other side.
i just wanted to know how far to cut back

yeah and i said not you, it was in reference to dave's post about him being on a horse.

wont your tarmac lads cut it themselves, prime and then lay it. thats what they do for us on patch ups.

plus you have a freakishly long thumb haha ;)
