I think they do but only released when burned?
I believe shredded tyres are used in soft areas in childrens playgrounds.

not really too much wire in tyres to use in kids play areas and its expensive removing it

Type 'shredded tyre' into google and you'll get loads of hits for playgrounds.
Having said that with tyre waste forever going up and playgrounds being run down I doubt if a large percentage of tyre waste is reused in this way.

they only use shredded forklift tyres in playgrounds, as they contain no wire i am told!

Good idea ,Giles. Ive hear the 'Earthships' are structurally very sound too. Nice thermal values and again, waste product combined with readily available materials.
