Hi

This'll hopefully be my last question before starting my lawn drain project. I'm going to lay the pipes in a herringbone layout but what is best? - do I join the side drains with 45 deg. land drain junctions or have the side drain trenches slightly higher than the main drain trench and allow the water to run on top of the main pipe?

The reason I ask is I would need about 8-10 junctions which works out at about Â£ 60-75. If I can get away without them it'll save me money and there will slightly less digging! but I want do it right so if junctions are best I'll use them.

Yes junctions, your little ideas to save money are pointless if you want to do the job right

ive installed about 5000 metres of land drains and i was taught this by a friend who runs a laser controlled mastenbroeke trencher doing 20 km a year of land drains,

always use junctions, do no, DO NOT, cut the main run. slice the junction in half, cut a hole the size of your pipe into the side wall and then insert the pipe upto it and fasten the junctions back around the main pipe with cable ties.

if you cut the main run then its proun to dropping and not draining properly.

fyi we pay about Â£2 each for these junctions when purchased with the pipe although we did buy 3000m worth in one hit.

thanks for the photos that really helps. I'll follow what you do and cut them in half and join etc.

Also would like to say that those "little ideas" are not mine just different ways I've read on how to go about it -
