Opinions please - Gravel against stone chippings

Sometime ago I said I was going to use 'Cumbrian Red' chippings on top of a sub base material for my drive extension, and the reason for this was that we already had some 'Cumbrian Red' in the front garden and we wanted it to match up.

Now I have seen some 'derbyshire aggregate' red granite' which is smaller in size (about 6mm). The colour is about the same as the 'Cumbrian Red', so I wondered if the 'red granite' would be better for walking/driving/parking a car on.

It's not so much the colour of the gravel, or its source, but the size that makes it more or less usuable as a surfacing. 6mm is easier to walk upon than, say, 12mm.

However, 6mm is ideal for loose-bowelled cats, so it's swings and roundybouts. Personally, I think 10mm is ideal for driveways while 6mm is ideal for patios.

Thanks Tony, I think I will stick with 'Cumbrian Red', as it does seem to settle quite well after a period of time.
