I have been in my house for 2 years. When I bought it I knew the water table in the area was close to the surface and at the time of purchase there was appeox 6 inches of water under the house in all downstairs room, the house is built quite high up on engineering brinks with plenty of vents (house is circa 1932). Water under the house has not been an issue, no smells, woodwork fine etc etc but with all the recent bad weather the water level has risen higher than the previous high tide Mark so now thinking what I can do about it. Here is what I have done in the last 2 years.......so what next is my question?
All gutters are clear, drains cctv'd and given all clear, water under house tested and confirmed as ground water vs tap water, garden (which runs away from the house) had extensive land drain installed, 2 large soak away pits discovered at bottom of garden following discussions with previous owner. The is an old pond at the bottom of the garden, 8 foot x 5 foot x 4 foot deep and fills and drops of it's own accord indicating ground water level. With the aide of an altimeter the water level in the pond is the same as the water level under the house (handy as I now know at what point I can expect water to arrive under my house) the interesting thing about the pond is it has an overflow channels which runs across the garden just under the turf, I have traced the pipe and found an old catch pit, so when the pond overflows it goes into the catch pit and then goes down a pipe which enters next doors garden and off (I assume it crosses their garden and enters the culvert on the otherwise of there garden)?
So I have pretty much covered slit here.......my question is if I rig a solar pump to keep the water level in the pond low, will hydrostatic pressure over time draw the water from under my house?
