Ok im about to srart removing 80m of clay 4inch drainage, the clients (7 flat owners) want to upgrade to 160mm plastic, in my opinion its completly pointless but the current set up keeps blocking, in fact its blocking in an area further down the run so the work we are going to do is pointless. But they want it done so that they can then say "its not ours its the neighbours run thats the problem"
My question is, would you cut out the 4" pipe from the brick IC and run the 160mm from there back to the other end or use an adaptor?
At the last part of the run i will have a new plastic IC but can i use a reducer to connect back on to the clay again? Worried about a possible sh!t trap

hate to say this dan but what they want you to do is pointless
pipes should get bigger along a run not smaller
better to put new 110 pipes in with more accurate falls
often as not roots and dips have caused the problems

Yep, my feeling is that roots have caused the issue too. But nonetheless they have specified 160mm so thats what we will be doing

All you can do is install the 150mm up to the chamber and sit your reducer just prior to the inlet, fairly pointless apart from the added volume/weight of the water possibly keeping it moving if it starts to block.
More likely though that you are just delivering waste water to the problem area that bit faster !

Thanks FJ ive got an email from them confirming they are aware of issues further along the run so we are covered and they believe there are issues in the existing run anyway. So fair do's. Will go with your suggestion then seeing as it is expected that the rest will be changed at a later date anyway

I would cut out the 4" pipe from existing (I assume) brick IC then run down to your new chamber.
Would keep you squeaky clean in that you have installed a complete 160mm line.
With the new plastic IC you obviously wont get one going from 160mm to 110 as you shouldnt reduce pipe diameter along a run... To be extra sqeaky clean you could install a new brick chamber and bench your 160 pipe straight in.
Also i assume with the S**T trap reference this is a foul line?

yep foul line, im going to use a reducer from the last ic as a temporary measure until which time the rest of the work is complete. will cut the beggining of the 160mm run in to the existing brick chamber. job done, next problem is keeping the 7 flats going while we complete the work. i have a pump that should handle the sewage and two ibc containers (1000ltrs each) and plan to use the first brick chamber as a sump to pump from while we do the work.

do people still bother with brick chambers? all the last ones we have done have been rings mush quicker and easier

personally i wouldn't reduce from 150 to 100 ml under any circumstances. I'm surprised the b c has allowed it. As lll i would renew the 100m ml. I can only see added problems with this set up.
