Hi, I've just discovered a buired inspection chamber in my driveway when it gave in as the car went over it. It is set in a gravel drive with approx 8in of soil and gravel over it. From initial looks it is a steel cover that has rusted through and given way, this is fitted over a brick inspection chamber which is approx 4ft deep.

I realise that it needs extending to the surface and simply reburying it isn't an option, but would this be a straightforward DIY job? If not what sort of costs would I be looking at to get this done professionally?

Finally I'm hoping that the water company is liable as our properties are pre 1935 and I suspect it is a shared drain between ourselves and the neighbours, but waiting for it to stop raining and some sunlight to do a better inspection.

Thanks

you would have to build the chamber up in brick and install an inspection hatch. really depends on how competent you feel your diy skills are......?.

Flemish bond and a 4:1 compo mix should do it. Not really seen so you can afford to bit a bit slap dash, but as vehicles are running over it, it might be a good idea to get a quote.

thanks for the replies. I would rate myself as above average in terms of DIY, my only concern was ensuring the inspection plate was fitted correctly given it is a gravel drive. I'd imagine a reasonably large concrete flaunch would anchor it?

Thanks
