Hi,

I need some expert advice on sorting an unpleasant problem with my drains. I have recently noticed a nasty smell in my kitchen when the upstairs toilet is flushed. I am on a septic tank, and I have checked for blockages or backing up and everything is flowing freely. There is a vent by the tank and the soil pipe taking the toilet effluent is also vented. The smell is noticable when the windows are closed and I wonder if there is some kind of siphoning effect going on?

I have tried the various MR MUSCLE type treatments but am at my wits end!

Any tips would be greatfully received....

i am no expert on septic tanks but modern day detergents like bleach, dishwasher tablets or fluids can kill the bacteria what the septic tank needs to work correctly otherwise they do need to be emptied more often

Hi,

Tanked emptied every 6 months normally so should be ok there.

Will check vent again at weekend, but tried to rod before, and tricky due to sharp bend in pipe.

Cheers
