with reference to my previous post
(in which i posted piccies which may help)...

i have some recess cover queries

i took the frame off the top of the 'big circular' IC and measured the diameter of the chamber and i make it 49cm. the recess cover i have purchased is 45x60. ie. the frame of the recess cover doesn't fit over the diameter of the chamber....

it seems that my circular chamber diameter of 49-50cm is not standard?

what would be the best course of action?
1) butcher the chamber and seal it with concrete? (i don't like the thought of this!)
2) buy another cover?
3) am i missing something?

Also, I am working towards putting recess trays over the two small ICs, but i need to reduce the height of their chambers. is there are minimum level that I can reduce their height to as one of the ICs in particular is already shallow...as it takes the kitchen waste to the 'biggie'

...thanks in advance
Darren

the covers come in various sizes, therefore I would buy a bigger size to the job correctly. but if you think you can get the other options to work and still get a finish you are happy with then it is your call.

the 49-50 diameter is not a modern metric standard but may be an
old imperial one.

wrt the lowest level you can cut the chambers down to, i don't know of any, but you will get the contents of the drain splashing up onto the underside of the recess tray the lower you go.

thanks for your thoughts Mikey

my house is ~12 years old so i'm assuming that the ICs are all metric.

i did some more research into ICs.... and can see that there are commonly 460mm and 320mm diameters, which are internal chamber diameters?

wrt to the smaller 320mm ICs, if I cut them down but reinstall the current plastic lids, that will keep the trays clean... but I wouldn't look forward to lifting the lids :)

so i wonder whether my "49cm" IC is in fact a 460mm.... as I simply took a measurement of the outer dimensions not the internal.

so, the most common recess trays are 450x600mm, but these (obviously) won't fit over a 460mm circular IC .... ?

i simply need to source a bigger frame and cover for this one?

can someone confirm my thoughts on this please, or suggest any other options?

cheers
Darren

well i guess Mikey's answer and my subsequent post mean that no further comment is required by anyone else.
???
(would've been good to get a bit of feedback)

i will proceed with the larger frame and chop my 320mm ICs down

its difficult without looking at these things darren, you can put a rectangular cover on a round ic by using lintels or such
