I have a 60 x 20ft wide garden. I have created a drop off at both ends of the garden with a pitch in the middle and aco drainage at the house end. The last 15 ft of the garden I am putting down a lawn the rest is paving. I have been investigating the drainage as all my neighbours have a problem with water logged gardens.

I have been investigating the options for soakaways and Suds but the problem I have is that i have dug down a metre and it is solid clay. I have about 300-450mm of top soil before hitting solid clay.

My plan is to put french drains under the lawn draining to the bottom of the garden. They are going to be lined with a mebraine and shingle but i am concerned where it is going to drain to. One idea is to install a sump pump in a trench and put a hose in to the cemetary behind the house.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
