Hello there to who can help me. I am installing decking to my garden directly outside of my kitchen and living room patio doors. There is a drain out side my house and in prep for the decking i have had to smash out the patio that was there, as somebody had buit it up to dpc level so had no choice but to do this. With the drain it is in the way of where i need to put one of my posts for the deck is it okay to get rid of the pipe. The pipe is a p trap that connects into another pipe that goes into the ground. The water will now soak in to the ground and intend on capping off the pipe so that in the future if some body wants to reuse it they can. It is clay pipe so do i need to inform anybody about this. I have checked to see if the drain, drains away into the manhole cover, and it does not neither does it go into my neighbours drain. So i think i am right in thinking it is a soakaway so i cant see a problem in doing this but please correct me if i am wrong many thanks

If the gulley is no longer required then simply capping off the redundant pipe will be fine.

The fact it is outside the kitchen worries me, where is the kitchen waste going ???

The drain is just for surface water that was draining the patio. But as there is no pavement and the drain is will be higher than ground level so there is no need for it, so that is why i will cap it off. The kitchen,toilet,sink and bathroom waste water do not go in to this they go into the waste water under the manhole cover. Hopefully the any water should drain in to the ground which is a mixture of clay and other debris. Also i will fork the ground to help with the drainage. Any feed back appreciated.

Only that it is recommended that soakaways be 5metres from the house ???

here it is
worked for me ... if i was you i would be very very carefull and dig around it to see what direction it does go and if its in use at all and once you have done that and you are fully satisfied that it is not needed then think once more and then take the P trap of and then blank/cap the clay pipe making sure you cut it nice and neat just incase you find you do need it after all.. but like the other guys all say make sure 100%.
