Hi all

Can you advise me on where best to position a soakaway?
Our drive slopes and the drain is at the bottom. When it rains the water cascades off the road and down our drive. In heavy rain it overflows but eventually drains away. One paving company said it is too close to the house and should be about 4 meters from it. Can't see how this will work as it will be near the top of the slope, footpath and road.

Any advice appreciated.

A soakaway needs to be 5 metres away from a building or any foundation that might be affected by it, not the 4 metres you've been quoted.

As for siting a soakaway on your property, we'd need to be familiar with the site to be able to advise. In general terms, any location that is at a low point and 5 metres or more from the house is what you need.

have you had the lids off the inspection chambers etc, to see if they are silted up? maybe the gully needs emptying. have you just got a single hopper or a linear channel, maybe you could place a deeper linear drain . ???
